There is so much I could say about this book- from how remarkable the characters are, to how vibrant the imagination of Antonio is, or how utterly dazzling it is for what it has to pronounce about people, religion, relationships, and inevitability. I really, really enjoyed this and without giving too much away, I’d like to provide a small summery of the beginning.
Antonio is a six year old boy who’s grown up with Catholicism in his family and town- but also strong paganism and separate beliefs. His father is a wanderer and his family has traveled for years, but his mother’s family has stayed in the same town for ages- His father wants him to travel, His mother wants him to become a priest. He’s so innocent, his thoughts are so complex, and then Ultima, the herbal medicinal “witch doctor” comes to live with them. And I’ve already spoiled too much. Oh, it’s so charming.

Oh. My. Fucking. God. This movie was absolutely amazing. Absolutely. Completely. I adored it. I sincerely think that everyone who hasn’t seen it (especially Kiki, Boozy, and Ri)- you need to go see it now. I will own this movie. The characters were so real, they had faults, they had emotions, and everyone played off of each other and their faults. It was very realistic, very slap happy, and very, very good. Four thumbs up.
I added some new photos to the gallery, so check them out! I also waited until the last minute to do my homework, yet again… but I’m not sure that I care enough not to. But it is always finished before midnight, which is the greatest part, because then I’m not staying up till six or so before class the next day. But back to the photos thing, I really think I want to get into more photography, as I’ve felt strongly about it for a long time- I just haven’t known what to do with it. I have albums and albums of photos, but I’d like to experiment with technique, learn the no-hows, and perhaps take portraits of all my friends, should they allow.
Make me fumble
Make me fall
Make my heart stop and start
To tremble uncontrollably
Let my eyes see fear make desire
Keep those who long apart
Forbid the kiss
And leave us innocent
Of the things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
Make me remember
Make me forget
Make my mind unable
To force the body to do its will
Let it be right for belief and denial
To share a space in the heart and leave us only to imagine
About the things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
Make me pretend
Make me expect
Things can go and come to pass
Without trial or tribulation
Let this life space and time
Leave my body with permanent marks
Faded scars and lines
But not a single impression
Of the things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
Let me be tempted
Let me be torn
But make my thoughts pure and not
Morally corrupt in form
Let us sleep tonight
Let innocence lie in our dreams and secret hearts
With burning desire
A need to know and do
The things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
