It took me a while to actually nail down and read this one, and after all that struggle and hassle I can conclude that I did enjoy it. Michael Dorris wrote a beautiful, plain spoken tale of three women. The grandmother, “Aunt Ida”, the mother, Christine, and the daughter, Rayona, share with us the stories of their lives and the secrets they hide from each other, each from their own distorted and selective point of view. And the story is also told backwards, from Rayona’s point of view first- and obviously she’s not going to have all the answers and know all the secrets- so everything unfolds and is intertwined. A very refreshing story. Three stars.
