She asks me to shout in her ear, but I only end up mumbling. She’s deaf, she reads lips. It’s dark where we’re standing, and she can’t see my mouth as it moves. What was I trying to say, anyway? If she would wear that red dress I would take her dancing and out of this insistent rain. She’s soaked. Ah, that’s what it was, do you need a ride? She shakes her head. I go on my way.
