I have two friends (one from Virginia the other from Georgia) and they have just slight southern accents and their voices are beautiful, seductive, and they sound so intellectual.

With my northern accent I say words like, “fur” instead of “four” and “yer” instead of “your”.
I wish I sounded more like either of them.

i’m southern (very, texas) and i’ve been sitting here the last few moments saying “fur”, “four”, “yer”, “your” repeatedly. i’m silly.

and i really enjoy your entries! i need to comment more often!

Haha - usually it’s the southern accents that are seen as denoting less intelligence!
I think any ole accent is intriguing enough to love, but I do appreciate having the background that allows me to use southern colloquials without it being forced.

(There’s music on your blog, now!)

Well, I’ve heard your voice (on YouTube, when you house-moved), and I think it’s charming and interesting. In fact to my ear it’s quite exotic - but then, mine is a boring middle English tone. I guess what I’m trying to say is that accents are so relative, and when you say another’s accent sounds beautiful and seductive, well, yours does too. It’s all a matter of where your ears are from!

I know! When was the last time I actually pronounced a ‘g’ on an -ing word? We talk like redneck hillbillies. Well, sorta.

Are you kidding? Northern people have higher intelligence, anyway. The south is a bunch of inbreds that talk with teeth missing. I live in Louisiana and our state has one of the lowest educational systems in America, compared to Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia. How lovely. Then again, I love Louisiana (or at least the CITY that I live in).

At least it isn’t a North Dakotan accent. Took me years to retrain myself and it still lingers into casual conversations I have.

Well I don’t like the way I speak at *all* and wish I could train myself to use a different accent. (I understand that to some others Australians have that kind of kitsch value but I would rather sound ‘lovely’ than ‘cute’ and/or ‘funny’.

I guess the grass is always greener???

i’m developing more of a southern accent since i moved down to louisiana. max is from north carolina and i love the way he speaks. i love accents, i always wished i had one. coming from alaska, one tends to be kind of neutral in the voice area. ;)

I love accents! It’s too bad we can’t come up with a sentence for everyone to say so I can hear all of our accents.

And thank you ever so much, aljuk.
