I’m posting Yelp! review because it will be easier than re-explaning the situation in a different way.

Unless you have no regard for your pets well being and price is the only factor driving you in your decision of a veterinarian, I’d advise against choosing this one. I will admit the first experience I had here was wonderful. Dr. Reabe was kind.

However, the second vists, which was yesterday, I brought both my cat and my new kitten and received a discount for bringing both of them in. $5 off my total price. Over the phone they told me it would be a $90 visit and when I went to check out the total was $170. Such a leap is unacceptable to me. They should have informed me of the price variations while it was happening. If they had been a bit more organized, maybe they would have.

The first thing I said when I entered the examination room is, “I’m a little worried about Morn. When we’re all done with the normal shots and checkup I was wondering if you could check out his left paw. He’s been chewing at it strangely lately. And he’s also been going down to the litter box several times a day and squatting, but only manages to squeeze out a few drops…”

“Oh, well she’s looking great. We’ll have her checked out in no time.”

I brushed off the error as an account of actively listening. So she messed up and called my male cat a female after I’d just spent three minutes discussing *his* issues. But it wasn’t a one time thing. I continued talking to her and the other nurse, who were cuddling Pumpkin, the kitten, and in the discussion of both MALE cats she continued to refer to them both as females.

I know now she didn’t hear a word I said. I left the vet yesterday very upset, but when my cat urinated blood at 2am, I was furious.

I’m fairly certain, thanks to the internet and not to this veterinarian, that he has a urinary tract infection.

I just got off the phone with the nurse and she said that I “probably caught it in time” and I just need to pick up some antibiotics. I’m thinking, what if I didn’t catch it in time? You’re not going to look at him to make sure it hasn’t gotten worse?

“No, he’ll probably just have you come pick up some antibiotics.”

Wrong answer, East Bay Animal Hospital. Wrong answer.

I’m pretty stunned by that. Just because I’ve worked in a clinic since I was 15 and know how things go and…that is NOT how things go at our clinic. O.O Poor Morn. I wish you lived in Canada, I’m sure my dad would be able to refer you to some responsible vets.

By the way, my old cat had the same symptoms near his end (it was NOT what killed him though) and that’s cystitis. I don’t recall antibiotics involved though but I’ll give my dad a call and see what he has to say.

Poor baby. I’m sorry he’s got an infection. And I’m sorry the vets were assholes. I’ve never had problems there, but I’ll boycott for solidarity. Me and Archimedes have Morn’s back.

You know it’s sad because many people consider their pets family and treat them as they would a beloved family member. If my cat were to have died, I’d be mourning for weeks. She is my best friend and first love.

It’s extremely disheartening to know that a vet would not treat a cat as they would if they were actual doctors treating a human being.

I completely agree with that. Morn IS my first love. He saved my life, really. We were homeless together, we got my first apartment together, we got my first HOUSE together. I would just die if anything happened to him.

That’s really bad. Time for a new vet’. Best wishes to Morn, I hope he’s well soon!
