I like pet names and nicknames. (Because if I don’t talk about something good my head will explode.) I’m sort of an addict, actually. In light of recent events, it’s come to my attention that I actually have favorites, but they remain particular. Lately every time a certain one pops up I wind up thinking to myself that it’s the best ever, but only if I’m called that, it’s not my favorite to use. So I’ve decided to waste the time I should be spending trying to sleep on compiling a list.

My favorites to use are “dove”, “love”, and “babe”.
I’m commonly saying “hon”, “dear”, and “darling”.
I use “sweed” with Jei. It’s pronounced “Swede” but a play off the common mispronunciation of “Sweetie.” Swee + D = SweeD.
I dislike to be called “sexpot”, “doll”, or “hottie”. Seriously now. And sometimes even, “baby”. Only certain people can pull that one off.
I hate to use OR be called “sweetie”, “sweets”, “sugar”, and “doll”.
I’ve always wanted to use “doe” and “kanga”. Though I’m pretty sure if anyone called me “kanga” I’d punch them in the face.
I’ve been known to use “ass”, “jerk”, and … various other swear words as terms of endearment.
I also like made up ones such as “weedlepop”, “pieface”, or “mufflesnuggle”.
I’m intrigued by “dear heart”, “birdie” and “muffin”.
My favorites to be called are “babe”, “love”, “lady”, and “miss”.

Do you like or dislike pet names?
What are some of your favorites?

And now I must away, because instead of spending all night at the computer I promised someone important that I would try to attempt sleep tonight, even if it means breaking this stellar record I have going. I seriously went to the doctor today, drove out for breakfast, and didn’t remember doing it hours later. But that’s a zombie story for another time. A thousand times good night.

(I realize now I didn’t talk about nicknames this time, but I will.)

EDIT: I’ve added, “lady” and “miss” to the list. =)

EDIT #2: “Mangette” is also one of my favorites to be called, but only one person can call me that.

Well, this post just makes me want to call you sweetie xD
No, but really, I don’t usually use pet names. Except, as you said, swear words as terms of endearment. I do that all the time.

Sleep<3

PS. You are probably the first foreign person I really started to <3 because of lj. I just like you ahah. Idk, I feel this connection and have the feeling we’d be good friends irl. :)

I was just writing a post about that. (The connection I mean.) It was titled, “People I Miss That I’ve Never Met” and you’re definitely on that list.

I think we’d get along splendedly and I honestly love reading about your life. I normally like reading about strangers lives, but with you it’s almost like we were friends before and you or I moved away and I have this desire to check up on you and see how things are going. It’s weird but totally cool.

I think it’s funny that a lot of our generations seems to curse in a friendly way. I wonder if that’s just starting or if older generations did it, too?

Sometimes I get called “Oro” or “Thaloface”

But most of the time I just use “inky” for my dearest. ^^

I can’t believe Ink Taylor stuck. It’s so awesome. It’s the best nick name ever.

Hrm…it occured to me that I only use pet names for my cat or dog, lol. They’re subject to “darling” and “sweetheart.” I don’t think I use them for people in person, I’m looser on the internet, haha.

Sara replied on April 18th, 2008 2:36 pm with the words:

You know, that’s funny. I’m not as lax on the interent because if when you say it, it slides into the conversation- but when you type it, suddenly it calls attention to it.

Hey, love, how you doing?

WEIRD.

Haha.

My extended family had a baby in November, and I’ve taken to calling him “space monkey” and “dixie chicken”. Poor, poor child..

Sara replied on April 18th, 2008 2:37 pm with the words:

Hahahaha. SPACE MONKEY.

If I ever had a baby I’d want you to call it names like that.

If you ever have a baby, I’ll come up with something wonderfully odd. (No, your comment was not insulting - but I am sorry if my posts have been downers!)

They weren’t downers, but more “brutally honest”. It’s nice to see you happier.

It’s “Poppet” all the way in my world… and sometimes “Treacle”.

My grandad used to call my nan “my duck” which I always thought was a little strange and very sweet, and also “plum”.

Gravatar
Sara replied on April 19th, 2008 2:10 pm with the words:

“My duck” is soooo cute!! So is “plum”.

I think Poppet would always remind me of Pirates. =)

Gravatar
Alastair replied on April 19th, 2008 6:28 pm with the words:

Pirates? I’m curious… how come? Poppet’s very British I think, not uncommon. But an old g/f of mine from Florida found it hilarious.

Btw, these comment threads are neat.

I say Dear-Heart!
For me, pet names all depend on who’s saying them. I hate being called Hottie, but when my friend Merryn says it I LOVE it! It cracks me up.

I usually hate being called Shelly, but there’s a guy at school who says it and makes it sound really nice = so I let him!

I say ‘gorgeous’, ‘lovely’, ’sweetheart’ and ‘chublet’ - I call my best friend ‘noodle’ or ’smelly’ - but it’s an affectionate Smelly.

Well Sara- Noodle I hope the sun shines down on you today - or at least a lovely shower of rain to grow the flowers!!!!

Sara replied on April 19th, 2008 2:12 pm with the words:

I agree about it totally matters who says them. I have one friend who says, “Babe” a lot but it totally doesn’t compare to when my other friend says it. I have no idea why. Some people just pull of certain ones, I guess.

PS: I LOVE chublet.

(And thank you for the well wishes.)

Oh I adore nicknames.

My cousin is Wolf. [he has a dog that 1/4 wolf, and he reminds me a little of a wolf. he's also fiercely protective of me.]
My boyfriend is Bear. [his native american name is oak tree, but most of his tribe calls him bear cause he's big and brawny]
I’m called Bella, [cause I'm clumsy and I have similarities to the twilight character] and gilligan, because one of my friends decided he was my island.
I call my best friend Malcontent. his name is malcolm. the otherbff is torah. she’s not jewish, but her name is tori.
haha
um.
I love nicknames.
:]
but sweetie is so overrated.

That is so incredibly poetic!! I like the names that are given to us best.
