So you’re not supposed to get attached to inanimate objects other than your stuffed animals, right? Well I did. I got attached to my camera. And I sold it, and while I was selling it to someone who I knew would take good care of it, it still felt weird. Maybe it’s because I named it? Or maybe it’s because it was the first time I’d puchased myself anything that was over fifty dollars. This was the first thing I’d spoiled myself on. It feels weird.

Anyway, I say all of this because today I saw some pictures taken by the lovely girl I sold my camera to.

It just feels surreal. There’s no other way to put it, I guess. And my first shots with my Powershot were definitely NOT that good. =)

Anyway, I was pretty sick last night and today so I’m going to take it easy. But this is what’s currently on my mind so I thought I’d share. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

my car, 100%. it was my first and had so many memories for me. i didn’t know how attached i’d become and how much it had really been my first real taste of true personal freedom.

The house I rented with some friends last year is a good example for me. Still gets me down everytime I pass it by.

my first mobile phone - the big huge chuncky brick thing with a Buzz Lightyear cover.
I gave it to my friend after she lost hers - and now when I see her with it, and hear my old ring tone (funky town), I feel a little bit angry, a little bit sad and a little bit melancholy!

Beautiful work! Definitely an approved home. :]

Erm, I’m trying to think of something significant that I became attached to but the reality is I attach myself to a lot. When I was a kid I made little beds and whatnot for my plastic toy dogs and such…

Playmobil? One time I (long time ago!) took my little Playmobil people in their awesome SUV down to the stream in the woods and made them have a little picnic. Not sure what happened but one of the kids fell in the stream and disappeared. I was so distraught! Weeks later I found him wayyyy down the other side of the property, stuck underneath a branch in the water. Happy ending.

Eggs is another…um…the remains of the eggshell my first duckling hatched out of is in a little glass box. I’d die if something happened to it.

I’ve been unfortunately attached to paper. It’s sort of an offshoot of what might be a mild case of disgraphia. I just love writing. I write on scraps of paper, receipts, paper I used to steal from the recycling bins next to the printer in my old office, notebook after notebook, etc. Most of it is connected to some larger work, but I fail to compile it all. I just pile it all. You see?

It’s a love of paper. And writing. And refusing to recognize that only a fraction of it is worth keeping and working on further.

I suspect that someday I will accidentally finish three or four novels in a week because I’ve been building up sections for so long. Moments after this happens, the earth with explode.

My God. I’m the same way with paper. Only, I don’t write enough. But paper…I love the feeling, especially when it’s in a notebook and the notebook is full and all of the pages have been written on on both sides. : )
